The local setting
Glasgow's application form covers skips up to 8 cubic yards. It directs containers longer than 3.7 metres or wider than 1.7 metres to the road-occupation route. Ask for the actual dimensions of the skip being supplied.

If you are considering a backcourt, first establish who can authorise its use. Speak to the owner or factor about bin storage, other residents' entrances and the route for carrying waste out of the building. A shared area does not become available simply because it is empty. Send the supplier a description of the vehicle approach as well: a close that people can walk through may offer no access for a skip lorry.
For a proposed road position, give the exact street and building number. The supplier needs to consider the delivery vehicle, lifting space and collection approach alongside the container's footprint. Choosing a 2-yard mini skip does not settle those questions. For a room refurbishment, list bulky fittings separately from tiles, plasterboard or electrical items so that the load and any separate disposal arrangements can be agreed before hire.
