A home clear-out and a business-premises tidy-up need different delivery details. Plan a Bellshill project with the right entrance, agreed waste and a choice of 2, 4, 6 or 8 yards.

Putting a skip on the road? North Lanarkshire Council currently asks for 28 days’ notice.
The council’s Bellshill vision describes Main Street alongside employment locations including Bellshill Industrial Park, Strathclyde Business Park, Eurocentral and Mossend. For a business address, include the unit and actual delivery gate, rather than only the wider site name.
Any gates, narrow entrances or parked-car pinch points
Overhead cables, branches and other obstacles
The waste type, including any heavy or bulky items
A photo of the proposed position can help the operator assess access. Delivery is confirmed after those details are checked.
01
Make the site entrance part of the enquiry
If your project is at a business park, ask the site manager about delivery hours, vehicle entry and the area assigned to the skip. Include any gate instructions and a contact who can meet the driver. A customer car park or loading bay may be shared or subject to separate permission.
For a property near Main Street, describe any rear servicing space as well as the street address. Agree how deliveries and neighbouring occupiers will retain access while the skip is in place. These are checks for your premises, not claims about restrictions on a particular street.
02
Separate a premises clear-out from household waste
For an office or unit clear-out, list packaging, shelving, electrical equipment and seating separately. A small skip’s size does not establish what the operator may accept; electrical items and upholstered seating need specific discussion. Business waste also carries record-keeping responsibilities.
For an ordinary home project, start with the largest items and any soil or rubble. Compare the four sizes after that assessment. The council’s town vision provides geographic context and future proposals, not confirmation that any business site is served by Small Skip Hire.
Bellshill placement guide
Driveway or road? Here’s where to start.
A skip on a public road needs the council’s Section 85 permission. Agree the exact position and who will apply before arranging delivery.
Allow for the council’s published 28 days’ notice. The application form also refers to 20 working days; confirm the applicable lead time, fees and dates directly.
Have the position ready
Prepare a location plan, proposed dates and the applicant and supplying company’s details. Permission depends on the position and other planned works.
Private land is different
A skip entirely on private land does not normally need a road skip permit. Confirm permission, surface suitability and lorry access.
Load it right
Know what goes in. Before you begin.
Tell us what you’re clearing. The waste type matters just as much as the skip size, and acceptance must be agreed before booking.
Everyday project waste
Usually suitable when agreed:
Non-hazardous household clutter
Wood and timber
Garden cuttings
Light renovation waste
Let’s check first
May need a separate waste route:
Soil, rubble and concrete
Plasterboard
Mattresses and carpets
Upholstered seating and electricals
Keep these out
Excluded from standard skip hire:
Asbestos or suspected asbestos
Paint, liquids and chemicals
Gas bottles and batteries
Fuel, oil and clinical waste
Keep loads level with the rim. Heavy waste has weight limits; upholstered seating and electricals must not go into a standard mixed load without an agreed authorised route.
